Guardianships are established through a court proceeding that allows a person(s) to become responsible for a minor’s care and/or manage a minor’s income, money or other property until the child turns 18 years old.

Adoption is the legal process of establishing a legal parent-child relationship when the adopting parent is not the child’s biological or birth parent.
