California State Bar – For more than 85 years, the State Bar of California has shaped the development of the law, regulated the professional conduct of the state’s lawyers and provided greater access to legal services for all citizens. The State Bar publishes a free pamphlet that addresses issues faced by seniors entitled “Seniors & The Law”.
California Attorney General – The California Attorney General’s office publishes a free pamphlet entitled “A Citizen’s Guide to Preventing & Reporting Elder Abuse”.
California Advocates for Nursing Home Reform (CANHR) – Since 1983, CANHR, a statewide nonprofit 501(c)(3) advocacy organization, has been dedicated to improving the choices, care and quality of life for California’s long term care consumers. CANHR provides useful fact sheets on its Consumer Resources page.
San Andreas Regional Center (SARC) – San Andreas Regional Center is a community-based, private, nonprofit corporation that is funded by the State of California to serve people with developmental disabilities as required by the Lanterman Developmental Disabilities Act.
California Medical Association – The California Medical Association is a professional organization representing physicians of the State of California. The “For Patients” section of their website has guidelines to help patients take an active role in their own health care.
Internal Revenue Service (IRS) – The Estate Tax is a tax on your right to transfer property at your death. It consists of an accounting of everything you own or have certain interests in at the date of death. And if you give someone money or property during your life, you may be subject to a federal gift tax.
